About the Event
There are learners who show great promise and potential when in school but do not seem to achieve much, later in life. On the other hand, there are students who do not seem especially talented in school but make significant achievements later in life. Why does this happen? Is it that these talented learners did not have the necessary psychosocial skills? Or is it that they ‘followed the herd’ in pursuing careers, instead of leveraging their talent? Is it that learners who did not seem talented in school simply did not get an opportunity to use the talents they had when in school?
In this session, Dr. Itishree Mishra, an Applied Psychologist, will talk about the role of aptitude, personality, interests and opportunity in being able to perform well in a particular field or career.
In conversation with GenWise co-founder, Vishnu Agnihotri, she will address questions such as-
- Can aptitude, personality and interests change over a period of time, or are they fixed?
- At what stage of life can one identify these? How does one identify these?
- After identifying aptitudes, what should be done to nurture these? What can teachers and schools do to nurture these?
- What is giftedness? What can parents do if the child is identified as gifted?
- For older children, how does one identify what fields or careers they should pursue?
Dr. Itishree Misra holds a Phd in Applied psychology. She has an outstanding academic record in Psychology and was awarded the Gold Medal by Delhi University for her Post-Graduate degree.
